Carlos Sainz has been chosen 2014 Revelation Sportsman

Two times MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez and two times badminton World Champion Carolina Marin have been chosen as Best Spanish athletes of 2014. They have received, respectively, the King Felipe and Queen Letizia awards from the National Sport Awards on a ceremony at El Pardo Royal Palace (Madrid).

King Felipe VI, queen Letizia Ortiz and their Majesty Juan Carlos I and Sofia, chaired an act where we could also see the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Iñigo Mendez and Miguel Cardenal, president of the Sports High Council (CSD) and also many sports federations representatives.

This is the first edition with a new name for the awards after Felipe VI taking his father's place as Spanish King last June. On the ceremony, Marc Marquez was recognized for his career as Repso Honda driver. Last year he conquered his second world title in a row on the highest motorcycling category. He won the award over the other nominee, ice skating World Champion Javier Fernandez.

Carolina Marin was also awarded after becoming badminton World Champion last August when she won over Chinese player Li Xuerui. This year she has won the title again to become two times World Champion. It was her father Gonzalo Marin who came to receive the award, as Carolina is right now compiting in Hong Kong.

The winner of the Iberoamerican Community Trophy has been Colombian cyclist from the Movistar Team Nairo Quintana, winner of the 'Giro de Italia' 2014. Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz came to receive the Rey Juan Carlos award as revelation sportsman from 2015. The Toro Rosso driver was World Series champion and then jumped into F1.

The Queen Sofia Award distinguishes gestures of fair play and it was won by Tarjeta Blanca-Coca Cola Cup. The Princess Leonor Award recognises the best athletes under 18 and was awared to sailor Aina Colom and driver Alex Marquez, Moto3 World Champion.

Baron Güell Cup, awarded to the best team or national team, was given to women soccer Spanish national team, who classified for the first time for the World Cup. It was also awarded to rythmic gymnastics Spanish team, who won the gold medal again on the clubs final at the World Championship celebrated in Turkey.

2014 edition of the National Sports Awards was convened on March 30th after a Boletin Oficial del Estado (BOE) resolution, "considering it is necessary to recognise those people and entities that during their activities, personal will or because of their participation on sports politics, have made an outstanding contribution to sport during 2014".
